UXCamp Boorloo: 2024 Recap

Mechanical Rock

UXCamp is a global network of independent events and Australia’s only community-driven design unconference. We bring together 200+ local designers and stand for radical collaboration, empathy and curiosity. - UXCamp Boorloo

This year, the UXCamp Boorloo was held at the State Library of Western Australia. The event was a great success, with over 200 attendees from all over Australia. The conference featured a wide range of talks and workshops on topics such as user experience design, interaction design, service design, AI, design systems, psycologic impacts, accessibility, gaming and much more. There were 41 pitches, 21 talks and a keynote.

The conference was organised by a team of volunteers, who did an amazing job of putting together a diverse and engaging program. The event was sponsored by a number of local companies, who provided financial support and prizes for the attendees.

Buying Ticket Strategy

Unfortunately Mechanical Rock missed out on tickets last year. To make sure we didn't miss out this year we put a strategy in place -BRUTE FORCE! We had a team of people ready to buy tickets as soon as they went on sale. Refreshing the page every few seconds, we eventuated with tickets!

Diversity is Strength

As you can see from this list, the variety of talks and experiences on display was a highlight. Whether you were looking for nitty-gritty of UX design talk, career advice, or reflections on the role of UX in our wider world, the agenda had something for everyone. Even the UX-specific talks were delivered in a way that made them accessible to non-UX professionals, which was important due to the diversity of attendees: UXers, students, software engineers were all present.

This versatility reflects on the awesome community surrounding the conference. The fact that 41 of the around 200 attendees took to the stage and pitched their talks is fantastic, and helped make this variety and accessibility of talks possible. We all had something we could take away from UXCamp regardless of our role, and we look forward to next year's event!
